Junior Cultural Crew Connect at LACMA

Each year, Bright Prospect takes students on various excursions to art museums and concerts to expose them to the fine arts. Bright Prospect nurtures not only students’ academic development, but their social and emotional development as well, so that once they graduate from college they become well-rounded citizens.  On January 27, 180 Bright Prospect high school juniors went on a “Cultural Crew Connect” to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Cultural Crew Connects are an opportunity for crew members to bond with each other and meet students from neighboring high schools.  Participants enjoyed a picnic lunch organized by their fellow Crew members, and the Crew Leaders debriefed their Crew members about what they learned at the last Crew Leader training. After lunch, the Crew Leaders led their Crew on a tour to find four recommended art pieces to look at. One of the students’ favorite exhibits was the Latin American Art exhibit because they had an opportunity to see pieces featured from countries their family members hailed from.  After the tour, crew members were free to explore the museum on their own. This year is the 10th anniversary of the popular art installation “Urban Light”, which features 202 restored, cast iron antique street lamps on display outside the museum.  It is a prime spot for professional and amateur photo sessions, and the students had an enjoyable time taking pictures, as seen here.
