Our nation’s top colleges are looking for promising students from historically underrepresented communities to diversify their campuses. They know from research and experience that a student body composed of different ethnicities, backgrounds and cultures fosters a synergistic blend of ideas and perspectives. A diverse campus prepares all students to think more critically, constructively and realistically, giving them the edge in an increasingly heterogeneous and complex society. Bright Prospect students have often been recognized for their leadership and their contributions to the campus community. Many of them are selected to staff the colleges’ orientation programs for incoming freshmen, and to be Resident Advisors (RA’s) in the dorms.
Despite efforts to diversify campus populations, connecting with students in economically depressed circumstances miles away can be difficult. With a majority of funding earmarked for scholarship support, even the most prestigious college’s recruitment budget is often limited, and recruiting qualified students from poor-performing high schools is expensive and time consuming. Consequently, ideal candidates from low-ranking and often distant high schools are frequently overlooked. Many such students only hear about the large public colleges and universities in their state. They are almost always unaware of the smaller, liberal-arts colleges that may be more suited to their individual academic interests, learning styles and goals, and are prepared to provide them with full financial aid.
Top colleges and universities increasingly look to Bright Prospect to assist them in identifying and recruiting strong candidates for their academic programs.
