A Proven Program

Many college scholarship programs target high-achieving youth from low-income families. But scholarships alone do not guarantee a successful college experience. Daunting obstacles frequently derail such students — unfamiliarity with the college environment, insufficient preparation for the demanding standards of elite colleges, a lack of ongoing social support, the wrong choice of college, demands brought about by family circumstances, and other setbacks large and small can end a promising student’s career. In fact, of every three low-income minority students attending college on traditional scholarships, two will quit before earning their degree.

Most scholarship programs — even those that offer full, four-year financial-aid packages — are not set up to provide the kind of all-encompassing, continuing support often needed to ensure a student’s ability to stay in the right school and earn a degree. On-going support is what sets the Bright Prospect Scholar Support Program apart from virtually all others.

Founded in 2001, Bright Prospect is a non-profit charitable organization headquartered

in the city of Pomona, within one of Southern California’s more economically depressed regions. The Bright Prospect Program is precisely modeled on a highly successful scholarship program created by One Voice, a non-profit organization in Santa Monica, California. Over the course of a decade, One Voice has assisted 150 low-income high school students, for whom college was at best a distant dream. With the help of One Voice, every student in the program was accepted with virtually full financial aid to outstanding private and public colleges including Amherst, Harvard, MIT, Smith, Stanford and Swarthmore. Even more remarkable, with the exception of but one student, all are still in college or have earned their degrees. More than a third of those who have received their Bachelors Degree have continued on for graduate degrees. One Voice alumni include physicians, attorneys, scientists, engineers, artists and educators. Their prospects are immeasurably brighter, and their legacy of achievement will carry forward well into the future.

Staffed by an outstanding team of professionals, Bright Prospect has replicated and seeks to expand the One Voice model.
